Learn about different operating systems on Trio Education.

Updated over a week ago

Trio Education is a cross-platform solution for schools to manage and monitor device usage among students. Students might bring various types of BYOD (Bring Your Own Devices) to school, or schools might provide SODs (School-Owned Devices). Whether students are using a BYOD or an SOD, the operating systems could vary from Windows to iOS, macOS, ChromeOS, Android, and others. Trio Education has worked diligently to ensure a consistent experience for all users, regardless of the operating system. By creating an agent app for each of these operating systems, the rules will be applied uniformly across all platforms.

The agent app

The agent app used to monitor students' devices is available on major app markets, such as the Play Store and the App Store, as well as on the Trio Education website.

Download the agent app here to monitor all types of student devices.

Windows

The Windows agent is available on the Trio Education website, and users can download it onto students' Windows devices. The agent starts automatically with each system boot, and its installation folder is nearly impossible for students to locate. Students cannot remove the agent from their computers without using the PIN code provided by the school. The agent does not require a large amount of system resources and can operate seamlessly in the background.

macOS

Users can download the agent from the Trio Education website and install it on students' Mac devices. Students will need to manually grant certain permissions, including Notification, Location, and Firewall settings.

Chromebook

The Chromebook owned by students requires a special extension to be downloaded from the Chrome Web Store and installed on the Chrome browser. Additionally, the extension needs to be allowed in incognito mode.

iOS and iPad

Several Apple policies restrict device supervision without using their built-in management system. To address this, the Trio team has developed a specific application for iOS and iPad devices called Trio Connect. Trio Connect must be installed on a Mac device (owned by the school administration). Using Trio Connect, students' iOS and iPad devices can be connected via a cable, and after following the procedure, the Trio Student app will be automatically installed on the students' devices using an MDM push command.

Android

Trio Student for Android is available on the Play Store, allowing students to easily download and install it on their Android phones and tablets. The agent is also available on the Trio Education website. There is a distinction between the version of the app available on the Play Store and the one available on the website. The website version includes Call & SMS monitoring, which is not available in the Play Store version due to Google's strict policies regarding app monitoring.
