Learn how to add a device to Trio Student panel.

Updated over 5 months ago

Trio Education is a purpose-built solution for educational institutions designed to manage student attendance, monitor device usage, and oversee online activities. It addresses the concerns of both authorities and parents by providing a comprehensive management system. The application integrates seamlessly with the Trio Student app, eliminating the need for additional device configurations. With its intuitive interface and straightforward functionality, Trio Education is user-friendly and easy to operate.

In this manual, we'll provide a step-by-step procedure for pairing a device with the Trio Education Panel. Please note that pairing devices and granting their permissions may vary slightly depending on the operating system.

To add a new device to Trio Education, follow the steps below

Trio Education supports pairing with various devices and operating systems. As a cross-platform SaaS app, it can monitor Android, iOS, macOS, ChromeOS, and Windows devices. Students and their parents must be informed about the agent app through the school contract or management policies, and they will need to install Trio Student on their devices.

Disclaimer: The Trio team is not responsible for obtaining consent for the installation of the agent app or monitoring of students' devices. Schools are required to secure parental consent through contracts, sessions, or other communication methods.

Add a device

Before you proceed with the steps on your Trio Education panel, ensure that the agent app, Trio Student, is installed on the devices you want to enroll. Students should follow these steps to successfully install the agent app on their devices:

  • Android: Students should go to the Google Play Store to download Trio Student.

  • Windows: Students can download Trio Student from Trio Education’s website.

  • macOS: The Trio Student agent is available for free on Trio Education’s website.

  • iOS/iPadOS: Due to Apple’s strict policies, the agent for iOS/iPadOS devices must be installed through Trio Connect (either pushed or manually installed). The IT technician will handle the installation.

Note: to assign devices to the student easily, it’s best if the students change their devices' names to their own names.

Example: Device name: Samsung A73 => Sarah Jackson

To add a new device to Trio Education, follow the steps below.

  1. Click on the "Devices" tab.

  2. Click "Add Device."

3. Choose the class you want to assign the device to.

4. Choose the device type. The device can be owned by the school (SOD) or by the student (BYOD).

Note: BYOD and SOD devices differ in functionality.

- SOD (School-Owned Devices): These devices adhere to monitoring rules 24/7, regardless of the school's open hours or location.

- BYOD (Bring Your Own Device): Monitoring for BYOD devices requires specific conditions to be met. The circumstances for monitoring BYOD devices are described as follows:

  • If the device is within the school fence and hours, the device will be monitored.

  • If the device's location services are off within school hours, the device will be monitored.

  • If the device's location services are on within school hours, the device will NOT be monitored.

5. After selecting the device type, press "Generate Code." Trio Education will provide a pairing code that students need to enter into their agent app to complete the pairing process. Once the device is paired, its name will appear in the Trio Education devices tab.

At the top of the device page, users can view the total number of devices and their operating systems. The device list displays the following information for each device:

- Ownership type (BYOD or SOD)

- Operating system

- Assigned class

- Student using the device

- Last activity

Users can utilize the filter button to find specific devices based on OS, ownership type, or enrollment date. Additionally, they can use the magnifier button to search for any device.

Action buttons:

  • Info: By clicking the info button, the user can see the device name, ownership type, class, profile, last location, installed apps, screen time report, and web activity.

  • Edit: By clicking the edit button, the user can edit the device's name, readjust the assigned class, and change the user of the device.

  • Delete: By clicking on the delete button, the user can remove the device that is no longer monitored by the school. This action is irreversible, and all the data associated with the device will be permanently deleted.

In case of any probable issues, contact Trio Education's support team.
