Geofencing in Trio

Learn how to manage fences and edit or assign them to different device groups.

The Geofencing section allows administrators to create, view, and manage virtual boundaries—called geofences—within the Trio platform. These fences help you monitor device movement, understand where devices are located, and build location-aware workflows across your organization.

Use this page to view all existing geofences, create new ones, and assign device groups for monitoring.

Geofencing overview

The Geofencing tab shows a list of all configured fences. If no fences exist yet, the page will display an empty state with an option to add your first geofence.

What this page includes

  • A searchable list of all geofences

  • Options to sort fences by name

  • Key details such as radius, assigned device groups, and in/out counts

  • Quick access to each fence’s map view

  • A button to Add fence

This page gives you a complete overview of how your geofencing environment is structured.

Geofence list view

When fences exist, they appear in a table format. Each row gives you a summary of the fence and its associated activity.

Displayed information

  • Fence ID/Name

  • Description

  • Radius

  • Device groups

  • Inside the fence (number of devices currently located inside)

  • Outside the fence

  • Map (quick link to open the fence in map view)

How to use

  1. Search for a fence by name using the search bar.

  2. Sort the list using the Name filter.

  3. Select any fence to open its details page or “View map” for a visual preview.

This view is useful when managing large numbers of geofences across multiple locations.

Grid view

Trio also offers a card-style grid view for geofences, showing a visual preview of each fence on a map.

What the cards show

  • Fence name and description

  • A map preview with the radius drawn

  • Radius measurement

  • Assigned device groups

  • Total devices linked to the fence

  • Quick actions menu

This view is ideal for visually comparing location boundaries at a glance.

Map view

Selecting View map opens a dedicated map for the selected fence.
Here, you can view the exact positioning and radius of the fence, along with details about associated device groups and assignment status.

Information shown

  • Fence name and description

  • Exact address and coordinates

  • Device group count

  • Device count

  • Radius

  • Created by (user)

This view gives you a geographic context of the fence and helps verify correct placement.

Geofence details

Selecting a fence opens the Details page.
This page contains two tabs: Device group and History.

Device group tab

Shows all device groups linked to the geofence.
If none exist, you will see an empty state prompting you to assign groups.

History tab

(Your screenshots show this only as a tab placeholder; no content shown—but I can create content if you want.)

Assign device groups

Selecting Assign device group lets you assign the fence to specific device groups.
This determines which devices will be monitored for being inside or outside the fence.

Available controls

  • Search device groups

  • Sort by name

  • Filter by ownership or platform

  • View last updated timestamps

  • Assign multiple groups at once

Once assigned, devices in that group will appear in the “Inside” or “Outside” counts on the geofence list.

When to use geofencing

Use geofences when your organization needs to:

  • Monitor device movement across physical locations

  • Track entry and exit from offices, warehouses, or service areas

  • Understand where specific fleets are operating

  • Combine location activity with policies or alerts

  • Improve oversight for field teams or distributed workforces

Next steps

After setting up geofences, you can:

  • Review device locations in Last location

  • Track geofence transitions in Fencing history

  • Configure alerts for entry/exit events

  • Adjust fences or assign additional device groups
