Learn more about location services on Trio.

Updated over 2 months ago

Location Services in Trio offer IT administrators a powerful and intuitive way to track, monitor, and manage the physical whereabouts of managed devices. Whether you’re managing laptops, smartphones, or tablets across multiple locations, this feature enhances both security oversight and operational awareness.

From real-time GPS tracking to intelligent geofencing, Trio ensures that your device fleet is not only visible—but also securely contained within approved zones.

What You See in the Location Panel

The Location and Geofencing section includes three key tabs:

  1. Last Location – Displays a real-time map with the most recently reported position of each device

  2. Geofences – Allows admins to create virtual boundaries and enforce location-based rules

  3. Geofence History – Tracks check-ins and check-outs from assigned geofenced zones

At a glance, IT teams can see:

  • Device name and OS version

  • Assignment status (user and group)

  • Real-time location (via Google Maps)

  • Status (e.g., Without Fence, No Location Data)

  • Last activity timestamp

Devices appear with color-coded indicators (e.g., green for active, red for location issues), making it easy to assess status instantly.

Key Capabilities

Real-Time Location Tracking

Trio collects and displays the most recent GPS data of each device, supporting:

  • Lost or stolen device recovery

  • Asset auditing

  • Field device verification for remote teams

Geofencing

Create geofences around office locations, warehouses, or job sites. When a device:

  • Checks in: Trio logs the event

  • Checks out: It can trigger a notification or policy enforcement

This is ideal for compliance-sensitive sectors like finance, healthcare, and logistics.

Location Logs & History

Track historical location activity to analyze movement patterns or verify if devices left authorized zones.

Why Location Services Matter

  • 🔎 Improved visibility: See where every managed device is, at all times

  • 🧠 Policy-based enforcement: Automate actions when a device enters/exits a zone

  • 📊 Compliance reporting: Prove that sensitive devices stay in approved areas

  • 🛡 Security & recovery: Recover lost or stolen devices faster with last known coordinates

Best Practices

  • Enable location tracking in your device policies to keep monitoring active

  • Define geofences for all corporate sites and high-risk zones

  • Use location-based compliance rules in tandem with profiles and app policies

  • Review Geofence History regularly to detect anomalies

Trio’s Location Services give your IT team the tools to operate smarter—not just by tracking endpoints, but by making their physical environment part of your organization’s security strategy.
