Policy Management

Learn more about policy management in Trio.

Before You Start

The Policy Management page is your central hub for creating, configuring, and managing device policies across your fleet. Policies define security settings, device restrictions, configurations, and compliance requirements that get applied to devices or device groups. Understanding the layout and sections of this page will help you efficiently navigate policy creation and management tasks.

Policy Management Page Sections

Recommended Policies Section

At the top of the page, you'll find pre-configured policy templates designed to help you quickly implement common security and configuration requirements. The recommended policies include Backup policies for managing device data backups, Passcode policies for enforcing security requirements, and Wi-Fi policies for standardizing network configurations across platforms. Each recommended policy shows its intended ownership model (BYOD, Supervised) and platform compatibility (Android, iOS, Windows, macOS). You can create policies directly from these templates using the "Create Policy" button.

Policy Overview and Filtering

The main section displays all your existing policies in a comprehensive table format. You can search for specific policies by name using the search bar and filter policies by Type, Category, Operating System, Ownership, and Status using the filter options. The "All Policies Types" dropdown allows you to focus on specific policy categories when needed.

Policy Information Table

Each policy entry shows essential information including policy name, type (such as Firewall, Web content filter, DNS Setting, Development, Setup Assistant, Energy Saver), category classification (Security or Configuration), target operating system with platform icons, number of affected devices, associated device groups, and current deployment status with color-coded indicators showing installed, pending, and failed deployments.

Policy Status Indicators

The status column uses color-coded badges to show policy deployment health. Green indicators show successful installations, yellow indicates pending deployments, and red highlights failed installations. These visual cues help you quickly identify policies requiring attention or troubleshooting.

Policy Details and Configuration

Clicking on any policy opens the detailed configuration page where you can modify policy settings. The policy details page includes tabs for Settings (where you configure the actual policy rules), Device Groups (showing which groups the policy applies to), Devices (listing individual affected devices), and Events log (tracking policy deployment history and issues).

Policy Settings Configuration

Within policy settings, you'll find sections like General Restrictions with toggle switches for various device permissions and capabilities. For example, restriction policies include options to allow or deny account modification, activity continuation, Game Center friends, AirDrop, AirPlay requests, personalized advertising, remote management modifications, and assistant functionality. Additional sections like Cloud Settings provide platform-specific configuration options.

Next Steps

Immediate actions: Review recommended policies for your organization's needs, create your first policy from templates, assign policies to device groups, monitor policy deployment status.

Troubleshooting

  • Policies not appearing in list - Verify you have appropriate permissions to view policy management

  • Cannot create new policies - Check that your plan includes policy creation features

  • Policy deployment showing as failed - Review device compatibility and policy configuration settings

  • Filter options not working - Clear search terms and reset filter selections

  • Policy details not loading - Refresh the page and verify network connectivity

  • Status indicators not updating - Allow time for synchronization or check device connectivity

  • Recommended policies not visible - Ensure you're accessing the correct Policy Management section under Fleet

Notes

Policy deployment success depends on device platform compatibility and network connectivity. Different policy types have different configuration requirements and platform support. Monitor policy status regularly to ensure successful deployment across your fleet.
