Remote Access and Terminal Sessions

This article explains how to use Remote Access and Terminal sessions in Trio to securely connect to managed devices, perform administrative tasks, and review session activity. Each section below corresponds to a specific part of the Remote Access feature as shown in the interface.

Remote Access entry point

Remote Access is available under Fleet > Remote Operations > Remote Access. This page serves as the central location for initiating and managing live connections to enrolled desktop and server devices.

If no desktop devices are enrolled, an empty state is displayed prompting you to enroll and add devices before starting terminal or remote desktop sessions.

Remote access overview

The Remote access overview section provides a real-time summary of connection states across the fleet, including:

  • Connected devices

  • Connection errors

  • Devices that reached the session limit

  • Devices not currently connected

These metrics help administrators quickly assess remote connectivity health before initiating sessions.

Remote Access to devices (device list)

The device list displays all eligible devices for remote access and includes:

  • Device name and platform

  • Device type (Desktop or Server)

  • Current connection status (Connected, Connecting, Error, Not connected)

  • Last check-in time

Use search, sorting, and filters to locate specific devices. To initiate a session, select Open session from the Sessions column.

Session workspace

Opening a session launches the Session workspace, which is the unified interface for managing live connections. The workspace header shows the device name, operator, battery status, and session controls.

You can switch between two session types:

  • Remote Desktop for graphical screen access

  • Terminal for command-line access

Remote Desktop session

Remote Desktop sessions provide live, interactive access to the device’s graphical interface. To start a session:

  1. Select the Remote Desktop tab

  2. Review the environment and connection status

  3. Click Connect

Once connected, the device screen is streamed securely within the browser. Administrators can observe or interact with the device depending on session configuration.

Terminal session

Terminal sessions provide secure command-line access to the device. To start a terminal session:

  1. Select the Terminal tab

  2. Choose or confirm the environment (for example, shell type)

  3. Click Connect

Commands executed during the session are streamed in real time and logged for audit purposes.

Session settings

Session behavior can be configured from the Settings option in the session workspace. Available controls include:

  • User consent requirements before establishing a session

  • Timebox to automatically limit session duration

These settings enforce security, compliance, and least-privilege access during remote operations.

Session history

All terminal and remote desktop activity is recorded under Session history. Each session record includes:

  • Session ID

  • Device and OS information

  • Operator identity

  • Start and end time

  • Session duration

  • Full command or activity logs

Session logs can be reviewed for troubleshooting, compliance validation, and audit readiness. Export options are available where supported.

Operational notes

  • Only enrolled and supported devices can initiate remote sessions

  • Session availability depends on device connectivity and agent health

  • All actions performed during sessions are audit-logged

Remote Access in Trio enables secure, governed, and traceable device access without requiring external tools or agents outside the platform.
