Removable Storage Restriction

Learn how to set up a Removable Storage profile on Trio Business.

Updated over a week ago

A Removable Storage Restriction profile in Trio enables IT administrators to control the use of external storage devices such as USB drives, SD cards, and external hard drives on managed devices. This profile plays a critical role in enhancing data security by regulating or blocking access to removable storage, preventing unauthorized data transfers, and ensuring compliance with organizational and regulatory policies. Administrators can configure granular restrictions, such as allowing only specific authorized devices based on serial numbers or disabling read/write capabilities to external storage altogether. The profile can be tailored to user roles or device groups, providing flexibility while maintaining strict control over sensitive data. Additionally, it enables monitoring and alerting for unauthorized attempts to access or use external storage devices, allowing IT teams to act swiftly on potential security risks. By enforcing consistent policies across all managed devices, this profile helps protect corporate data from leaks, theft, or unauthorized access, while also supporting compliance with standards like GDPR, HIPAA, or CCPA. It is an essential tool for organizations prioritizing data protection and secure device management.

You can set up a Removable Storage profile on Trio for macOS and Windows. The setting is the same for both platforms

  1. Go to the Trio Business panel. From the menu on the left, go to Profiles, and in "Security", click on "Create new" and find the profile.

  2. Give your profile a custom name. Confirm to run to configurations.

  3. Under general settings, you will see the status drop-down menu where you can select the items you want to block.

  4. If you select "block all", there will be no further option and all the storage will be restricted. But if you select the "Whitelist" another option will be added. You will need to select and add a storage to be whitelisted.

  5. After completing the steps, you will need to assign the profile to either a Group or a Device. After completing the assignment, you'll be done.

If you have more questions, you can contact the Trio team.
